How to Survive a Sexless Marriage

I know the feeling

I know the feeling! My wife and I have been married for over 27 years, and I honestly can’t remember when the last time was that her and I had sex. My wife is extremely beautiful, has a great body, and although I constantly compliment her on how good she looks, and how proud I am of how she’s taken good care of herself, for some reason she just doesn’t want to have sex with me. I’ve asked her if there’s something that I’m doing wrong, or not doing at all. I’ve asked her if she’s just not sexually aroused by me. But no matter how many times I try to talk to her about this issue, she refuses to tell me why she’s not sexually attracted to me anymore. She just listens to my concerns, and just gives me this “I don’t care” look, no response, nothing! When this first started, her excuse for not having sex was that she knew that I was tired, so she just wanted me to get my rest. Now she just does everything possible to ensure that we don’t go to bed at the same time. Her initial excuse was that she had to clean the kitchen before we went to bed. But for the last two + years, I’ve taken that excuse away from her. I now clean the kitchen every night after dinner, I even do most of the cooking for dinner. Now she tells me that she’ll be up as soon as what ever she’s watching on TV is over – although we have a TV in our room. I’ve bought books for both of us to read together, but she refuses to read any of them. We’ve gone on couples retreats with our church, and that hasn’t worked. We were even part of our churches couples ministries for about four years, but after no change, I felt like a fraud, and believed that it was best that we no longer take part in a leadership role within the ministry. My wife and I have both learned how to play the part perfectly in front of our friends and family, because everyone always tells us how perfect our marriage is. The grass isn’t always greener! I love my wife very much, and although I have even given serious thoughts to having an affair, I just can’t bring myself to being unfaithful. After so many years of trying, I’ve actually just given up making any further attempts at being sexually intimate with my wife. My kids, grandkids, the love that I have for my wife and my faith in God keep me going strong everyday now.
